520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc | This text is about business, business people, organizations and how to use information systems effectively to meet the goals of those organizations. Kroenke starts at student-level experience, progressing from the simple to the more complex and builds on the student's growing knowledge and interest. The book stresses the role of information systems in satisfying business objectives by illustrating concepts with realistic examples, minicases, case applications and review material, including projects. The authors explain to the students why we use information systems, how we develop them and what technology is required. They divide Management Information System (MIS) topics into teachable sub-units: applications and goals, system components and systems development. The book cycles through three concept areas - business need, technology and development - to create a change of pace, provide natural breaks and allow students time to consider the material without becoming overwhelmed. The authors reflect trends in globalization of information systems, distributed systems, ethics, end-user computing, object-oriented databases, knowledge acquisition, enterprise information systems, hypermedia, prototyping, CASE, fourth-generation languages and graphical user interfaces. "Casebook for Management Information Systems", third edition (0-07-035948-2) by Kroenke and Dewitz supports this text. |
