This book gives the readers an insight into the mind of the film-making genius - Satyajit Ray. The book is actually a complication of all the articles and essays Ray had written for some of the major publications in the world. It is divided into two sections - Our Films and Their Films . Our films is devoted primarily towards his own unique experiences with film making. It talks in detail about the making of Pather Panchali, which is one of Ray s greatest films and also contains many unknown facts, anecdotes and observations made by Ray regarding Indian films. Their films, on the other hand, talks about the films made by the western world since the era of silent cinema to the present times. Ray talks about some of the biggest landmarks in cinematic history throughout a long period of time and praises directors like John Ford, Charlie Chaplin, Akira Kurosawa and Jean Renoir. All of these great film makers were personal favorites of Ray and his love for their style of film-making is well documented in the book. The topic of Italian Neorealism is also discussed by Ray in the book. |
