Part I - Mathematics: This part consists of four chapters - the first two dealing with mathematical techniques needed for financial calculations (eg compound interest and pension calculations) and the latter two dealing with mathematical concepts which underpin management decision relating to the use of resources. Part II - Statistics: This part consists of eight chapters. The first four provide an introduction to the essentials for all those coming new to the subject. The last four demonstrates the statistical (rather than mathematical) techniques used in management decision-making.
The aim of this book is to provide the course text for the first year of the many courses that introduce basic quantitative methods to students who do not need to be particularly mathematically-minded. It can also be used as a support text for quick reference. The emphasis is on worked examples supplemented by exercises with answers - all at an introductory level. The book assumes a knowledge equivalent to that covered in the author's "A Refresher in Basic Maths" and is intended for use on the following courses: HNC/D Business and Finance, BA Business Studies, BA Modern Languages and International Business, and all other courses with a business element.
