This book is intended for language teachers, teachers in training, teachers educators, and those involved in curriculum development. It highlights the fact that that impetus for renewal is not derived from applied linguistics alone, but is a function of the coming together of various socio-political, educational and linguistic influences, in response to particular contextual requirements. It points to the need for educational systems to ensure that there is an adequate framework and an effective process for renewal, within which all those concerned can work together towards text-sensitive improvements of classroom teaching and learning.
